Grinding media
Achieve the best possible results with grinding media meticulously aligned to your grinding materials; wear-resistant and in various compositions, sizes, hardness and weight. KERA is your perfect partner for custom solutions and advice.
We provide various types of grinding media including steatite, aluminium oxide, porcelain and other common applications. To ensure the quality and service life of the grinding balls, we mainly supply grinding media that has been manufactured in Europe.

Kg/dm²
|
Water absorption | 0 | Vol. % |
Available diameters | 3, 6, 10, 12, 16, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 | mm |
Application | Steatite is often used for grinding and reducing the size of particles such as pigments, minerals and raw materials in grinding containers and ball mills. |
ALUMINIUM OXIDE | AL203 (92%) |
Properties | Value | Unit |
Specific weight | 3,6 – 3,8 | Kg/dm³ |

Available diameters | 7, 11, 16, 25, 30, 40, 50 en 60 | mm |
Application | Alumina is often used when a higher hardness, wear resistance and specific weight is important in reducing the size of the grinding product |
PORCELAIN | MgO – SiO2 |
Properties | Value | Unit |
Specific weight | 2,5 – 2,6 | Kg/dm³ |
Water absorption | 0,1 | Vol. % |
Available diameters | 9, 15, 20, 30, 40 en 50 | mm |
Application | Porcelain is used for highly concentrated and sometimes aggressive substances and at high temperatures. |
PREVENT CONTAMINATION
Contamination is pollution of the product that takes place when grinding residue from the balls contaminates the product, potentially causing a change to the colour or flavour.
Ceramic grinding balls such as steatite, aluminium oxide and porcelain have a high wear resistance against solvents, lye, vapours, gases and all acids (except hydrofluoric). This prevents pollution of the grinding product.
How to prevent wear of your grinding balls:
- Clean with care
- Choose the right grinding ball diameter(s)
- Choose the right amount of filling for the grinding jar
- Prevent the grinding jar or drum having an excessively high rpm
- Use the right peripheral speed to ensure the grinding balls roll instead of slide.
